Of Fishes Strange and Foreign Port

Hi;

You are the nicest thing in my life--by far. I love you stinky, more’n its legal to do so.

“Of ships and seas and rolling tides, of fishes strange and foriegn port”--so starts a favorite Sunday morning program. Have listened to it for almost five years--the narrator tells such good stories. Your asking of my British carrier brought that to mind--yes, the baby flattop named “H.M.S. Ranee”. T’was a wee Kaiser coffin, used mainly in ferrying planes

throughout the western world. Missed two of the finest pictures while aboard it too. Just a few moments after a red alert; two cascades of water arose. One on each beam about 200 or 300 years away--mos’ beautiful (purty) explosions to snap. Not me tho’, my camera was down in the locker an no time to get it. Have been lucky this war. Think the Lord was saving me a year or two to be with you. Started out by missing an Asiatic draft to the Houston, which was put on the spot in Dec of 41 at the Macassar Straits. Got off that cluiser I was on an it was subsequently fished. Went to the Indy, an for three yars the luck held. Am enclosing a wee clipping of the ‘queens’ last cruise--she was a fine vessal hon.

Guess you know who I’m signing with for the next cruise--taint the blimey nivey for shure. Sweet tender young damsels like ye be--thats for me. (You can throw those blankets away--ah will keep yo’ warm.)

Like this chap that called into some wile newspaper editor for the death rate of that county. The editor said, “Wa’ll stranger, guess its about the same here as anywhere else. One per man.” Sounds a bit Will Rogerish.

Love
